Mount Baker Elopement

I met Sara & Chris at the Artist Point Trailhead at 5:45 AM, just before sunrise. We hiked to a spot I know well to watch alpenglow hit Mount Baker (Komo Kulshan), then continued on to find their ceremony spot. We hiked less than a mile into the Mount Baker wilderness and enjoyed stunning views nearly all to ourselves at such an early hour. Once we settled on a spot that spoke to them, we hiked back to the parking lot and met with their dozen guests and retraced our steps out to Huntoon Point. It was a beautiful, relaxed, and incredibly special experience.

There’s something incredibly unique about an alpine lake, and this body of water is a mostly seasonal pool that creates a perfect reflection of Shuksan when the wind is still. When it’s story here, the water becomes too choppy to get a good reflection. The air is most calm at sunrise, so I had hoped we would get ideal conditions and we were rewarded for that optimism.

After a beautiful sunrise in the mountains, family and friends hiked up to a seasonal body of water above Artist Point. There, you can view a reflection of Mount Shuksan that was glowing in the morning light—looking across the water the view of Komo Kulshan (Baker) made us all feel truly surrounded by giants. It was the ideal place to exchage vows and say “I do” for this couple. The ceremony included laughs, smiles, and was followed by endearing toasts from close family. It was the sort of wedding ceremony I felt honored to witness, and my favorite kind of personal celebration where everyone was clearly at ease, having a wonderful time.
